Become a Camp Counselor
Developer Camp is a three-day hackathon and community event, held regularly in cities all around the world. It relies on a certain pattern to create trust and foster cooperation — right up until the presentations begin.
Our Camp Counselor program recognizes the winners and distinguished members of our community with special opportunities to mentor and lead. In addition to first dibs on fun (paid) work, our Counselors are given the chance to help shape the content and character of our upcoming events.
Camp Counselors are the elite. They go on to form companies that everyone knows, ship products we all use, and put a beautiful dent in the universe. We are proud to stand behind our alumni and provide the following:
Benefits
- Company. Winners and honored guests are invited to join our Slack community year-round—for free. All the benefits of API integration and real-time collaboration are guaranteed for life.
- Discounts. If it is not free, then you’re getting a crazy good deal thanks to our sponsors. Counselors are like teachers, always deserving a break.
- Introductions. Because we are in such close contact, our worlds overlap. When it comes time to meet investors, or find a key hire, the organizers and other counselors make great references.
Costs
- Initiation. In order to qualify for this program, you must have attended at least one event and distinguished yourself as part of the Hackathon Show. In addition to this, a one-time initiation into the program is required.
- Time. Your initiation travel and accommodations will be paid, because we will ask you to mentor and assist new community members during our next event.
- Attention. Throughout the year, you will be expected to keep tabs on the people you have helped. As long as you contribute to the ongoing community, you will be considered a Camp Counselor with all the benefits and privileges conferred.

In most cases, we’ve known them for years. To make a great team, they bring family members and find friends on site. We watch for the spirit of helpfulness and positivity that marks a great leader.
